THE SWISS GUARD SERIES

The uniforms of The Pontifical Swiss Guard, the symbolic army of Vatican City State, are hanging infirmly and stripped of every meaning. Some of them are even turning into picturesque monsters. What a metaphor for the attitudes of Pope Francis, who, facing all the horrors of the current war, is still not able to name the aggressor “clara voce”. The cycle of paintings reflects the role of the Catholic Church as a moral authority in today's world. If discredited, what happens with the Church's abundant visual heritage? For now it seems that the only positive element is the visually attractive blue-yellow colour scheme of the uniforms. In the context of contemporary tragic scenes, the scheme takes completely new connotations.
